I was talking to a tree the other day
And it asked me
To not cut it down
"But I need the space!"
I replied with a frown
"Why?
Just don't cut me down
You're the one who needs to change"
Was her steady reply
"But I want to grow veggies
And have more sun
Isn't that a noble pursuit
For everyone?"
"You do not understand"
The tree replied
You cannot cut me down
Without my consent
The harm you will do
Is far greater
Than your short sighted pursuit
However noble you conceive it to be
It still is not the right action, you see
You need to come in alignment
And acknowledge all that lives
Only than you shall know
What's noble
And know the right action
From which we all can grow
In unison and equal understanding
For now and the future
So, go now and make a new plan
Than come see me again"
And so I did
I went inside
To find the answer
To my plight
When we talked again
I said: "Ok,
So I cannot cut you, you say
It is hard for me
To learn and listen
without thinking me crazy
To acknowledge your presence
Acknowledge your words
Take them to my heart
And change on my part
To understand that the unity
Once was real
Before we lost our way
Before all went astray
I want us to come together again
So I open my heart
To mend what is broken
And to unite instead of part"
Me and the tree
We talk regularly now
And I am learning to see
How our lives can be
When we choose to live
In connection and harmony
